A plan belongs to a workspace, not to a person. Each workspace has its own plan, its own limits and its own credit balance, and whoever owns the workspace pays for it.

Your personal workspace

Every account gets one workspace when it is created: your personal workspace. It is the only free workspace you can have. It starts on Free, and you can upgrade it like any other. Your free workspace cannot be deleted. It goes away only with your account. You can give it to someone else, and then you get a new, empty free workspace; see Transferring ownership.

Every other workspace is paid

Any workspace you create after your personal one has its own paid plan, Starter, Pro or Max, chosen when you create it. Creating one opens checkout for that plan, and the workspace becomes usable once checkout completes. A workspace that was created but never paid for is unpaid, shown as having no plan yet. It is read only like a paused workspace, see What a paused workspace can do, until its owner completes checkout. If you cancel the checkout, the billing page offers Try again or Delete this workspace. You can have at most 2 workspaces waiting for a plan at once. Pay for one or delete it before you create another. A workspace that was never paid for is deleted quietly after 7 days without a plan. It gets no 90 day retention and no reminder emails, because nothing was ever paid for in it. A workspace that was paid for at some point follows When a plan ends instead. There is no limit on how many workspaces you own. Plans do not cap it. Each workspace is its own subscription.

Upgrading changes one workspace

Upgrading a workspace buys a plan for that workspace and nothing else. Your other workspaces keep their own plans. Moving one workspace to Pro does not give Pro limits to your personal workspace, and the other way round.

Members

Joining a workspace is free, and you can join as many as you are invited to. Members work on the workspace’s plan and the owner pays. Each plan caps how many people a workspace can hold: An invite is refused when it is created if the workspace is already at its cap.

What is counted per workspace

Every limit in Plans is counted per workspace against that workspace’s plan: requests a minute, a day and a month, concurrent requests, providers, models, quota rules, prompts, mappings, workflows, Context, vaults, web searches, uploads, images and the Computer. Ten API keys in one workspace share one allowance rather than getting ten. Two workspaces each get their own. Abuse protections that guard sign-in, support and unauthenticated traffic stay per person.

Credits

Each workspace has its own credit balance. A workspace’s plan grants that workspace its monthly credits, and everyone working in it spends from that balance. Credits never move between workspaces.

When a plan ends

When a paid plan is not renewed, for example because a payment fails or the subscription was cancelled, the workspace goes through these stages. The owner gets an email 30 days, 7 days and 1 day before a paused workspace is deleted. Renewing the plan at any point before then restores everything as it was. When a workspace is deleted, automatically or by its owner, its billing is cancelled first.

What a paused workspace can do

A paused workspace, and an unpaid one, is read only everywhere: in the console, in the management API, in chat and on the Computer. On the Computer the editor will not start, and a preview or published site at <project>.nemu.page shows a “This workspace is paused” page instead of the project.

The workspace_paused error

Requests against a paused or unpaid workspace are refused with HTTP 402 and the code workspace_paused. That applies to inference and /reader on api.nemu.cc, to every management API write and to Context and vault writes on app.nemu.cc, and to sending a message in chat. From the gateway the body is:
The x-nemu-error-origin header is nemu. Retrying does not help: the owner has to renew the plan.

Billing in the console

Settings, Billing shows the plan of the workspace you have selected. To open another workspace’s billing directly, add ?workspace=<id> to the address. Only the workspace owner can change, cancel or upgrade its plan. Other members see the plan and who pays for it. Upgrade links can name a workspace and a plan, for example https://app.nemu.cc/upgrade?workspace=<id>&plan=pro. Upgrades apply immediately, including the higher credit allowance. Downgrades are scheduled for the end of the current period. Cancelling leaves the plan active until the period ends, and then the stages above begin.
